Adrienne Hostetter

Bio and Artist Statement
“I portray my subjects in the mediums of oil, ink, graphite, watercolor, and even sculptural materials. Oil paint is my primary choice of medium along with the preliminary drawing material graphite. Draughtsman ship is an important element to me as the initial foundation of my work. After that, the application of color is just as important in building on the structure of the subject. Oils have a durable rich color of long lasting value and a nearly infinite array of mixable colors. I use it thin and thick with palette knife and brush as my tools. Artists of the past that have inspired me include Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Dyke, Bouguereau, and the Pre-Raphaelites Annie Louisa Swynnerton, Waterhouse, Alma-Tadema and many others who drew and painted beautifully in a classic and enduring style. The purpose of my art is to show the beauty of life. It challenges me to capture the three-dimensionality in terms of light and shadow and color. The goal of my technique is a painting with fine draughtsman ship and radiant color.”
